The "Cosmos" by Viking Discs is a versatile fairway driver designed for beginners and casual throwers. With a speed of 7 and high glide, it’s ideal for controlled fairway shots between 60 and 90 meters, requiring no excessive arm speed. Available in Storm and Armor plastic, it offers a grippy and durable feel, while the more affordable Ground version provides an accessible option for newcomers. As a fairway driver with moderate demands, it bridges the gap between midrange discs and faster distance drivers. In flight, the Cosmos reveals behavior that noticeably deviates from its official ratings. Despite its nominal stability (Turn 0, Fade 1), it performs with noticeable understability in practice. On stronger throws, it tends to turn over early and can flip completely from hyzer angles. The glide of 5 carries the disc far but also amplifies its turnover tendency. The understable behavior is especially pronounced in Armor plastic, while Storm plastic offers slightly more resistance. The fade at the end remains minimal and rarely compensates for strong right-turning flights (RHBH). For beginners with lower throwing power, the Cosmos reliably holds straight lines and delivers predictable flights without a harsh fade. Advanced players use it intentionally for turnover shots and anhyzer lines but must moderate their power to avoid uncontrolled cut-rolls. On forehand throws, it demands clean technique, as even moderate force can cause it to overturn. Those seeking a stable fairway driver like the Teebird will be disappointed—the Cosmos fits better in the category of understable all-rounders like the Leopard. For budget-conscious beginners, the Ground plastic version offers a solid entry into fairway play.
