Taniwha
The "Taniwha" from RPM Discs is designed with flight ratings of Speed 10, Glide 5, Turn -2, and Fade 2, making it ideal for beginners and players with moderate arm speed. As an understable distance driver, it enables long, controlled throws without requiring excessive power. Particularly in Atomic plastic, it offers excellent grip and durability while maintaining reliable flight characteristics even at lower speeds. For beginners, it often serves as their first distance driver—one that can be thrown without advanced techniques yet still delivers solid distance. In flight, the disc exhibits a noticeably understable trajectory at medium power. The -2 Turn kicks in early, creating a gentle rightward curve for backhand throws, while the moderate Fade of 2 ensures a controlled finish. The high Glide of 5 noticeably extends the flight phase, compensating for lower arm speed. At full power, the "Taniwha" tends to turn over more than the flight numbers suggest—players with higher throwing speeds should account for this. However, when thrown at around 75% power, it flies remarkably straight with minimal fade, making it highly versatile. For beginners, it’s an ideal first step into distance drivers, forgiving of technical flaws while still providing good distance. Intermediate players use it strategically for turnover lines or hyzer flips, though they must account for its pronounced understability. On forehand throws, it remains stable on the intended line at moderate power, while backhand throws with reduced power result in a nearly neutral flight. It’s less suited for headwinds, but in tailwinds or indoor settings, it truly shines.
