The "Kea" from RPM Discs combines the precision of an approach disc with the range of a midrange, filling a unique niche in your bag. With a speed of 4, it performs controllably on shorter to mid-range distances, and its pronounced overstability (fade 3) ensures reliable landings even in windy conditions. The subtle bead on the rim provides defined hand contact without being intrusive—comparable to the feel of an Innova Gator or Prodigy A3. For approach shots under 80 meters and standstill throws, the Kea shines: it lands exactly where intended and ignores crosswinds. In flight, the disc maintains a stable trajectory with minimal turn (0) and reliably fades left (for right-handed backhand throws). The moderate glide of 3 prevents excessive float, while the strong fade ensures precise landing zones. Atomic and Cosmic plastics enhance the overstability further, with Magma offering slightly better grip while maintaining similar flight characteristics. Compared directly to the Zone or Harp, the Kea exhibits a slightly stronger fade and less glide—ideal for players who want to force early landings. It excels on hyzer lines and provides controlled ground play. For intermediate and advanced players, the Kea serves as a reliable utility tool for both forehand and backhand approaches. Beginners should first gain experience with more stable discs, as the Kea offers little margin for error and may dump early with insufficient throw speed. On tight fairways with low ceilings or in headwinds, it remains predictable—a disc for situations where control outweighs distance and every meter counts.
