D Model US
The "D Model US" from Prodigy Disc is designed as an understable distance driver for maximum distance at moderate arm speeds. With a speed rating of 12 and noticeable turn, it primarily targets players with mid-range power who seek controlled distance throws without extreme effort. However, in practice, there's a discrepancy between the manufacturer's specifications and actual flight behavior: fresh out of the box, the disc behaves more stable than the -3/1 flight numbers suggest and requires breaking in to develop the advertised understability. This deviation is particularly noticeable in the BaseGrip plastic, while DuraFlex variants reach the turn window faster. In flight, the "D Model US" develops a straight to slightly right-turning line with pronounced glide when thrown with the appropriate arm speed around 105 meters. The high glide rating of 6 is enhanced by the pop-top and results in extended float times. With excessive power, the disc tends to burn out and turn uncontrollably to the right, whereas at adjusted throwing speeds, it flips from slight hyzer to flat and finishes with minimal fade. The turn only becomes noticeable on throws exceeding approximately 105 meters—below this range, the disc remains surprisingly stable on the release line. For advanced players with 105 to 120 meters of distance, the "D Model US" works well for straight tunnel shots and controlled turnovers without strong anhyzer setups. Beginners often find the disc too stable and miss the advertised beginner-friendliness, as they lack the necessary throwing speed to achieve the turn behavior. DuraFlex Glow proves to be the most consistent plastic choice for reproducible flight patterns, while BaseGrip requires more break-in time. As alternatives for similar flight paths, the Axiom Virus or classic fairway drivers with higher turn ratings are worth considering.
