The "Octane" by MVP Disc Sports fills the gap in the high-speed segment for throwers seeking controlled distance without extreme overstability. As a speed 13 distance driver, it targets advanced players who already possess the arm speed needed to unlock the potential of faster discs. It sits between purely overstable utility bombers and understable turnover drivers—ideal for long, open fairways where maximum distance with predictable flight is key. MVP's Overmold technology enhances consistency, while availability in Neutron, Proton, and Plasma plastics offers subtle stability variations. In flight, the "Octane" mirrors classics like the Wraith or Destroyer but with slightly more high-speed turn. Its glide rating of 5 ensures extended hang time, while a turn of -1 initiates a gentle S-curve on powerful throws. Unlike extremely fade-heavy distance drivers, it remains manageable: after the initial turn phase, the disc stabilizes and finishes with a reliable, moderate fade of 2. This combination makes it especially efficient for distances between 100 and 130 meters, where other high-speed discs either dump early or drift uncontrollably. Flight characteristics vary slightly between plastics—Proton leans toward straighter stability, while Neutron offers a touch more glide. In practice, the "Octane" works well for both backhand and forehand throws, though backhand players can better leverage its S-curve potential. Thrown on hyzer, it holds long, straight lines, while flat releases or light anhyzer angles activate the turn phase for extra distance. Advanced players with speed-13-capable arm speed will find it a reliable workhorse for open-distance shots—neither overly fade-prone nor prone to uncontrolled flips. Beginners, however, may struggle, as insufficient throwing speed can cause the disc to fade prematurely.
