Understable

The Innova Stingray is an understable midrange designed for easy distance and controlled turnover shots. With a speed of 4 and glide of 5, it's ideal for beginners looking to achieve straight flight paths and longer throws, as well as experienced players who need a utility disc for specialized lines. The flat profile sits comfortably in the hand and ensures clean releases. In DX plastic, it offers maximum glide and early turn, while Star versions are slightly more stable and better suited for tee shots. The disc behaves similarly to a much less stable Roc and provides extra distance due to its pronounced rightward fade for right-handed backhand throws. In flight, the -3 turn dominates its behavior: at moderate arm speed, the disc reliably turns right and holds that line over long distances. The glide allows for surprisingly long flight phases, while the gentle fade of 1 results in only a soft leftward finish at the end. Beginners can achieve straight flights with the correct release angle and nose-down throws without needing excessive power. Advanced players will experience stronger turn and can use the disc for long turnovers or controlled rollers. The Stingray teaches clean throwing technique, as flaws in release or nose angle become immediately apparent. Stability varies slightly between plastics: DX models become more understable faster and excel for extreme turnovers, while Star plastic retains moderate stability longer. For hyzer flips, a slight hyzer angle is enough to straighten the disc out or achieve a slight rightward turn. Anhyzer throws produce long, sweeping lines without early fade. The forehand works well for controlled anhyzer shots, though backhand remains its primary strength. Perfect for beginners as a first midrange and for intermediate players as a versatile tool for upshots under 80 meters, as well as for rollers. Advanced players also appreciate it for technical tunnel shots and precise turnover lines in wooded courses.
