The Innova Sidewinder is an understable fairway driver with a speed of 9, known for its versatility and appeal to both beginners and advanced players. As one of the most accessible fairway drivers in the speed-9 category, it allows for controlled distance throws without requiring extreme arm speed. Particularly in the popular Star and Champion plastics, it offers a balanced mix of grip and durability, with Champion versions initially flying slightly more stable before breaking in to reach their full understable potential. Its range of use extends from straight fairway shots to intentional turnover lines when effortless distance is needed. In flight, the Sidewinder's turn of -3 and fade of 1 create a noticeable right drift on backhand throws, which smooths into a gentle S-curve at moderate throwing speeds. Its high glide rating of 5 noticeably extends flight time, adding extra distance without extra effort. Fresh discs tend to exhibit controlled turn that stays on the intended line with a clean release, while seasoned discs drift right even more willingly. Advanced players take advantage of this trait for hyzer flips, where the disc flips from a hyzer angle into a straight or slightly anhyzer flight path. The moderate fade at the end prevents excessive drift and ensures predictable landings. For beginners, the Sidewinder is an excellent choice for gaining first-time experience with faster drivers without immediate consequences for imperfect technique. It works equally well for backhand and forehand throws, with forehands naturally utilizing its anhyzer tendency for straight lines. Intermediate players appreciate it for turnover shots in wooded areas or when navigating obstacles to the right. Even advanced players keep it in their bag for specific lines or controlled-power throws where precision matters more than maximum distance.
