The "Shaman" by Gateway Disc Sports bridges the gap between a classic putter and an approach disc. With a flatter profile than many Gateway models, it suits players who find deeper putters too bulky. Its primary use lies in controlled approaches up to around 75 meters and precise drives on shorter fairways. Available in Diamond, Sure-Grip, and Super-Stupid-Soft plastics, it caters to various grip preferences—from durable to ultra-soft. The beadless, flat design ensures clean releases and a compact feel in the hand. In flight, the "Shaman" (Speed 3, Glide 3, Turn -1, Fade 1) behaves as a straight-flying disc with a slight turnover tendency on softer throws. Its stability allows for flat lines as well as reliable holds on hyzer and anhyzer angles throughout the flight. Unlike pure putters with more fade, it stays neutral in the air longer before finishing with a subtle fade. This predictability makes it ideal for technical shots where overstability would kick in too early. The mild turn activates just enough for controlled S-curves without unwanted drift. For approach shots between 50 and 75 meters, the "Shaman" often replaces midranges, as it handles tight lines with greater precision. Off the tee up to 75 meters, it delivers reliable straight flights, even in moderate headwinds. Forehand players appreciate the flat profile for clean releases, while backhand throws benefit from its straight flight with minimal lateral movement. Its high beginner-friendliness across skill levels stems from its forgiving stability and intuitive flight path. Newcomers quickly gain confidence in straight lines, while advanced players leverage its versatility for shaping shots and technical approaches in tight terrain.
