The "Diablo" from Gateway Disc Sports bridges the gap between fairway and distance drivers with a speed of 9 and an overstable baseline characteristic. As a versatile all-rounder, it’s ideal for controlled distance throws on tight fairways where precision matters more than maximum distance. Particularly in Diamond and Evolution plastics, it offers a balanced mix of grip and durability, while the Platinum Glow version performs reliably even in low-light conditions. With its flight ratings, it positions itself between classic speed-7 fairways and faster speed-11 distance drivers—comparable to established models like the Thunderbird but with its own unique flight profile. In flight, the "Diablo" develops a moderate turn on powerful throws before its pronounced fade of 2 reliably brings it back. This combination of initial maneuverability and stable finish allows for controlled S-curves on mid to long distances. A glide of 5 ensures good float without making the disc uncontrollable. The actual stability leans overstable, with behavior varying by arm speed: it remains reliably stable at moderate power, while advanced players can intentionally utilize the turn. For backhand throws, the "Diablo" excels on hyzer lines, where it flips up briefly before landing with a gentle fade. Forehand throws benefit from its predictability in headwinds, as the disc resists turning over even in windy conditions. Advanced players appreciate its versatility for shaping different lines and distances between 90 and 120 meters. Beginners may find it demanding, as it requires sufficient arm speed to unlock its full potential. Intermediate throwers, however, will discover a reliable companion for transitioning to faster discs.
