The "Famine" by Doomsday Discs is a speed 12 understable distance driver designed for players with moderate throwing power who seek a controllable distance driver without extreme fade demands. With a turn of -2 and fade of 1, it produces a smooth S-curve that performs reliably even at moderate arm speeds. The Uranium plastic offers a grippy feel with decorative metallic flakes, while Meltdown and Fallout are available as alternative plastic options. Unlike many speed 12 models, this disc doesn’t require maximum power to unlock its full flight potential—an advantage for players who aren’t yet consistently throwing over 100 meters. In flight, the disc exhibits pronounced glide, keeping it airborne longer, while the early turn allows for a wide, right-drifting phase. The moderate fade at the end ensures a gentle landing without a harsh hook, keeping the overall flight path predictable. At higher throwing speeds, the turn increases without the disc becoming uncontrollable—the stability adjusts to the power applied. Compared to more aggressive distance drivers like the Shryke or Tern, the "Famine" offers a slightly straighter, less sweeping line with reduced fade. For backhand throws, the signature S-curve unfolds over distances of 70 to 90 meters, with intermediate-level players best able to balance turn and fade. It works well for hyzer releases to achieve flat lines with controlled right drift, while anhyzer throws quickly transition into turnovers. Beginners with solid technique will find this an accessible introduction to higher speeds, while advanced players can use it for precise shaping shots and tailwind situations. The manufacturing occasionally shows minor flashing, though this doesn’t affect flight performance.
