Surge-SS
The Discraft "Surge SS" fills the gap between control and distance as a Speed 11 distance driver. With a glide of 5 and -2 turn, it caters to players seeking distance without requiring extreme arm speed. Particularly in Z Line and ESP plastics, it delivers consistent flight paths for fairway drives where neither maximum overstability nor unpredictable turnover is desired. The moderate rim width makes it more manageable than many Speed 11 competitors and ensures clean releases. In flight, the disc exhibits balanced behavior: On a slight hyzer, it flips to flat, holds a straight line, and finishes with gentle low-speed fade. The -2 turn kicks in gradually without pulling the disc uncontrollably to the right. With 2 fade, the landing remains predictable without a hard left break. This combination allows for both straight drives and controlled S-curves when thrown with more anhyzer. The FLX version behaves similarly to a seasoned standard Surge, offering extra grip in cooler conditions. For intermediate players, the "Surge SS" serves as a reliable fairway driver that completes full flight phases even with moderate arm speed. Beginners benefit from its forgiveness and the chance to gain initial experience with higher speeds without immediately encountering overstable fade. Advanced players use it strategically for hyzer flips or tunnel shots requiring precise lines through wooded gaps. On backhand throws, it delivers consistent results across various power levels and remains a stable option for controlled distance throws even after prolonged use in the bag.
