The "Mantis" by Discraft serves as a versatile fairway driver in the mid-speed range, covering controlled distance throws between 90 and 110 meters. With a compact rim and comfortable depth, it sits securely in the hand for both forehand and backhand throws. Its combination of moderate speed and balanced flight characteristics makes it especially accessible for beginners and intermediate players seeking a reliable fairway companion for precise lines. In Z Line and Big Z plastics, it offers enhanced stability and durability, while X Line provides extra grip for shorter throws. In flight, the "Mantis" develops a controlled turn phase upon a clean release before transitioning into a moderate fade. This S-curve emerges particularly on full-speed throws, allowing for long, graceful flights without unpredictable turn. Stability ranges from slightly understable to neutral, though the 2013 Ace Race version is noticeably more overstable than later production runs. It holds its line reliably in headwinds while drifting gently right in tailwinds. Titanium plastic enhances overstability further, making it suitable for thumber throws or windy conditions. For straight fairway shots with a controlled finish, the "Mantis" shines: when thrown flat, it drifts softly right before reliably fading back to center. Hyzer releases produce wide flex lines, while slight anhyzer angles allow for smooth turnovers. Beginners benefit from its forgiving flight path and manageable rim, while advanced players appreciate its control for precise S-curves and long approach shots. As an alternative to faster distance drivers, it offers greater predictability without sacrificing fairway-range distance.
