Overstable

The Discmania "Splice" is an overstable fairway driver designed for throws where reliable fade takes priority over maximum distance. With a speed of 9, it bridges the gap between controlled fairway and utility discs, excelling in headwinds, skip shots, and tight corridors where an early fade avoids trees or obstacles. Its stability significantly exceeds the official flight numbers—in practice, the disc behaves closer to a fade of 5 rather than the listed 4, making it appealing for players seeking predictable fade dominance without surprises. In flight, the "Splice" exhibits an extremely short straight phase and minimal glide, realistically closer to 2. After release, it follows a brief flight before decisively transitioning into fade—regardless of release angle or wind conditions. This flight characteristic resembles an FAF Firebird or models like the Felon and FD3, though with even less float and a stronger dump. The turn remains at 0; even at higher arm speeds, the disc refuses to flip. For players looking for a less extreme alternative to the Tilt, the "Splice" offers greater usability while maintaining comparable overstability. On hyzer lines, the already steep fade intensifies, while anhyzer throws quickly correct and land in a predictable zone. The disc performs well for both backhand and forehand throws, with the latter benefiting from fade reliability in scramble situations. Advanced players will find the "Splice" a utility option when distance is secondary and precise placement matters. Beginners, however, may find it too demanding, as it requires high arm speed and offers no margin for error. Neo and Lux Vapor plastics ensure the stability holds over many rounds.
