Gray Jay
The Gray Jay by Daredevil Discs is an overstable distance driver designed for wind and utility shots. With a speed of 14, this disc is aimed at advanced players seeking a reliable meathook for extreme conditions. It excels in headwind situations and for shots that must fade hard left. For sidearm throwers, the Gray Jay offers excellent performance, maintaining its overstable flight even at high rotational speeds. It serves as a counterpart to molds like the Innova Ape or Stiletto, though its actual speed feels closer to 12–13. In flight, the Gray Jay shows a relentlessly stable path with a turn of 0 and fade of 5. The disc resists any turnover and follows a predictable curve even at maximum arm speed. Its pronounced fade ensures a sharp left finish, minimizing roll-away risk. This flight characteristic makes the Gray Jay a dependable choice when other distance drivers exhibit too much turn. Despite its overstability, a glide of 4 allows for decent distance—provided there’s enough power behind the throw. For forehand shots, the Gray Jay performs exceptionally well, resisting any rightward drift even on aggressive releases. On hyzer lines, it accentuates the angle and lands steeply. Flex shots with high anhyzer reliably snap back to center. Advanced players use the Gray Jay strategically for low-ceiling scrambles, skip shots, and strong headwinds. Beginners may find this disc too demanding, as it requires significant throwing speed. The Grip Performance plastic ensures a secure hold, even in wet conditions.
